Siri AI in iOS 27 Gets Dedicated App and Camera Mode

Siri AI is finally getting the iOS 27 overhaul Apple first promised years ago, and this time the feature set is much broader than a cleaner voice assistant. As 9to5Mac reports, Apple used WWDC 2026 to introduce a second-generation on-device Apple Intelligence model, a dedicated Siri app, deeper app actions, and a redesigned interface built around the Dynamic Island.

The biggest change is that Siri is becoming more like a full assistant workspace. Users will be able to open a dedicated Siri app, invoke it through existing shortcuts, or swipe down from the Dynamic Island on iPhone. On Mac, Siri is being tied directly into Spotlight with a new monochrome menu bar icon and its own dedicated app.

Siri AI becomes a system-wide assistant

Apple says the new assistant uses personal context, on-screen awareness, Spotlight’s semantic index, app actions, and broader world knowledge. In Apple’s demo, Siri could understand a location shown in an Instagram post and connect that information with contacts without the user spelling out every detail.

That matters because the upgrade is designed to move Siri from simple commands to multi-step help across apps. The new Camera app includes a dedicated Siri mode that can split a bill, create multiple calendar events from a poster, and connect visual intelligence with real-world tasks. CarPlay and AirPods are also getting enhanced Siri behavior.

Voice control is being expanded too. Apple is adding more customizable voices with controls for pace and expressivity, while “Write with Siri” can learn how a user communicates with specific contacts. System apps are getting smaller but useful AI hooks: Safari topic-based tab organization, natural-language page monitoring, one-tap password updates, smarter Mail suggestions, Calendar event creation from natural language, Phone call context, Shortcuts creation from prompts, and improved Photos tools such as Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing.

There are caveats. Apple says some Apple Intelligence and Siri features will have daily limits, with higher limits for iCloud+ subscribers. The first launch will be English-only, with a developer beta available now and a customer beta coming later this year.

Apple also confirmed that the new Siri features will not launch on iPhone and iPad in the European Union at the same time. A separate 9to5Mac report says Apple directly blamed the Digital Markets Act, while Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Watch are not affected in the same way. Impacted EU features include the new Siri, updated writing tools, and Siri mode in Camera.
