Foldable iPhone design details are getting clearer after a new dummy unit offered the best look yet at Apple’s expected first foldable phone. According to MacRumors, leaker Sonny Dickson shared detailed images of a non-functional unit that appears to show a near-final physical design.
Dummy units are usually built for case makers and accessory companies, so their value is in physical accuracy rather than software. This one shows a book-style, passport-shaped device that opens wider than it is tall, with a layout unlike most current foldables.
The reported display setup is important. The device is expected to include a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner OLED panel, making it slightly smaller than an iPad mini when opened. Rumors also point to an ultra-thin 4.5mm titanium frame, a horizontal dual-camera system on an iPhone Air-style camera plateau, and Touch ID instead of Face ID.

The latest dummy also shows several smaller hardware details. MacRumors notes that the cover display appears edge-to-edge and slightly curved at the edges. The camera flash sits below the rear microphone, while the rear microphone uses a seven-hole design. The inner camera is placed at the top left, which could affect how Apple handles Dynamic Island-style interface elements.
Color may be just as notable as the hinge. Dickson said white currently appears to be the only option, which lines up with a Weibo claim that Apple may skip black for the first foldable model. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also reported that Apple may avoid bold colors and use more traditional finishes.
The foldable iPhone is expected in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Gurman has said pricing could cross $2,000, so Apple may be positioning the device as an ultra-premium launch rather than a mass-market iPhone from day one.
